Our second Chess Lions Open marked a significant milestone! We introduced two new unrated sections to accommodate beginners, making chess more accessible to newcomers. Most notably, we welcomed our first 2000+ rated player to the Open section, elevating the competitive standard and bringing elite-level chess to our community.
The 4th Windsor Open continued our tradition of excellence with a new, modern venue! With around 65 players, the tournament was a good follow up to the 3rd Windsor Open.
Building on our previous events, the 3rd Windsor Open brought together over 80 players in many sections! This tournament continues our mission to bring chess back to Windsor.
Chess can be a powerful force for social good, especially as a fundraiser for youth-focused initiatives. Through our tournament, we raised over $600 to the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, supporting the development of young leaders in our local community.
The Windsor region lacked OPEN CFC-rated tournaments for players of all levels. Most events were CYCC qualifiers, limiting participation, as adults couldn't compete and many stronger players stopped playing after qualifying. We introduced this tournament as a game changer, creating an inclusive, competitive event--and it was a resounding success.
